Words from the Library

Krystal Dean

Krystal Dean: Congrats on being the first in your family to start your college career! As a first-gen student myself my first year was chaotic and I was often really overwhelmed. The biggest piece of advice I can give to you is to be aware and familiarize yourself with the resources the university provides. I struggled a lot with moving to a new area and doing something no one else in my family has experienced. I felt really alone but getting to know staff across campus made me feel less alone. If you're struggling to make friends like I did join a club or two! Getting involved on campus outside of the classroom is the best way to meet new people if you're uncomfortable approaching people in class. Have fun, learn new things, and get excited for your future! 🙂

Jennifer Randall: I wasn't First Gen at UNCP but still. My advice is to not be hard on yourself and to utilize library resources!
