Library Instruction Information

Mary Livermore Library has a robust Library Instruction and Information Literacy team whose purpose is to support the faculty of UNCP as they are teaching research and writing techniques. As a faulty member, you will be able to customize and schedule Library Instruction Sessions in the form below.

Content Options

Introduction to Library Services: Content in this session will include how to navigate the library website, how to locate your subject research guide, what resources are in the library building, how to research in Primo, where the reference desk is and how librarians can support students, and library events.

Assignment Support: If you are interested in having a library instruction session specifically to support a research project of large assignment, our instruction librarians can tailor research and information literacy content to fit your class.

Citations: Are your students struggling with creating citations? The instruction librarian can use a library Instruction Session to support your assignments, your style guide, and your class.

Source Evaluation: Identifying good sources for academic research or thinking critically about online websites and information can be challenging. This session will discuss techniques for evaluating information and academic resources, including identifying peer-reviewed articles.

Beginning Research: Are your students just at the start of their research process? Content in this session will include brainstorming for a topic, developing keywords, and doing some background research in Google, Google Scholar and Primo.

Research in Databases: Are your students almost finished with their research project? Content in this session will include research in databases, how to use subject research guides, how to evaluate sources, and how to create citations. May include RefWorks information upon request.

Plagiarism: Content in this session will focus more on concepts of information literacy, the value of information, the scholastic conversation, intellectual property and the ethical use of information. This session will also discuss how to avoid plagiarism and UNCP's Academic Honor Code.

Specific Resource Tutorial: Content in this session will look at subject specific resources curated by a librarian or resources requested by course instructor.

Other: This option will allow any faculty to customize what instruction support would benefit their class or to request an orientation for a program or department.
