Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Interlibrary Loan

Mary Livermore Library offers access to a vast number of physical and electronic resources. However, sometimes the library doesn't buy access to that content. Instead, we can borrow most books, articles, and occasionally, videos from other libraries.

Mary Livermore Library does not charge for Interlibrary Loan requests. If there is a copyright cost, you may be notified and asked if you are willing to pay that cost before the item is ordered.

ILL should not be used for Course Reserves - most libraries lend a book under the assumption that it is for individual use only. Please use the Course Reserve Guide for help with placing Course Reserve requests.

Copyright Declaration

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material, including Interlibrary Loan.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying/Interlibrary Loan order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

When you are searching the library catalog, Primo, and you can't find what you are looking for, there is a link at the top of the window where you can expand your search.

You will receive an email letting you know your item has been delivered and is waiting for you at the front desk. You can see an example of this email below. You have one week to pick up that item. If you can't come in for some reason, please email us and we will extend the pick up time period. When you are finished with your item, you can return it to the front desk or to the library book drops.
